Housekeeping 101: Fuss-free home cleaning hacks

Use a wet rubber glove to get rid of pet hair:

If you love your pet but find it difficult to remove your pet's hair from your furniture, simply use a wet rubber glove to quickly and effectively remove any pet hair from your furniture. This is a particularly great idea if your pet loves curling up on your sofa or if you frequently entertain friends or family members who are allergic to your pet.

Use baking soda to get rid of your pet's scent:

As an example sprinkle a bit of baking soda onto your pet's bed and your sofa. After 15 minutes vacuum up your baking soda and you should notice that you can no longer smell your pet's scent.

Clean your used sponges in your microwave:

Instead of throwing your sponges out after a single-use, pop them into your microwave for one minute and they'll come out looking brand new. As the heat in your microwave will kill off any bacteria which may be growing in your used sponges.

Clean your stainless steel appliances with baby oil:

Did you know that you can get rid of unsightly fingerprints on your stainless steel appliances such as your fridge, with a bit of baby oil? Simply dab a bit of baby oil onto the corner of a cleaning cloth, which you can then use to wipe away any visible fingerprints or marks.

Use ordinary toothpaste to remove pen marks from wood floors or furniture:

If you have kids, it's highly likely that you'll find pen marks on your wood floors or expensive wood furniture. However, there's no need to panic as you'll be able to remove any pen marks which you find by gently rubbing a bit of toothpaste onto your stains, using an old toothbrush.

Clean your drains using baking soda and vinegar:

The easiest way to clean a blocked drain is to pour half a cup of baking soda and half a cup of vinegar down your blocked drain. Once five minutes have passed you can then run hot water down your drain for a minute.

Use a few drops of olive oil to polish your wood furniture:

If you'd love to ensure that your wood furniture such as your wood tables and chairs look their best, simply use a few drops of olive oil as homemade furniture polish. As olive oil is a natural product, it will also cause less damage to your wood furniture than a store-bought alternative.

Clean your shower or bath using a grapefruit:

To get rid of any water marks which may be present on your bath or in your shower, cut a grapefruit in half and rub half a grapefruit directly onto any visible watermarks.

Clean your aluminum pots and pans using water and lemon juice:

One simple way to effectively clean your aluminum pots and pans, without having to scrub them with all your might is to pour water into your pots and pans and to add a tablespoon of lemon juice to each pot or pan. Next, bring your pots and pans to a simmer for five minutes. After this time simply rinse your pots and pans out and marvel at how clean they look. While it's best to opt for fresh lemon juice, store-purchased lemon juice will also do the trick.

Don't be afraid to put your shower curtain in your washing machine:

The best way to clean a dirty shower curtain is to run it through a cycle in your washing machine with a couple of medium-sized towels.

Get rid of scuff marks on your hardwood floors using a clean tennis ball:

You can try to buff out any scuff marks on your hardwood floors using a clean tennis ball.

Use half a lemon to thoroughly clean your chopping board:

To clean your chopping board, simply rub half a lemon over your chopping board before rinsing your chopping board with warm water. As lemon is a natural disinfectant.

As life is far too short to be spent cleaning, it's well worth testing out all of the cleaning hacks listed above, in order to keep your house looking clean and tidy with little effort.
